Peepshow

Peepshow (A BANNED BOOK)— Tunnel Book. 5”x 3” x .25” closed, opens to 14”.Enclosed in a postmarked brown envelope. Manipulated computer vintage images. Specialty papers.

“Peepshow” is an early term used to describe what are now referred to as tunnel books.  For obvious reasons the term is no longer used by most book artists. Because the Comstock Law is still on the books, this artist book could potentially be confiscated by a postal inspector as being obscene. This book was exhibited at the Rosenbach Museum & Library in Philadelphia for a show in observance of Banned Book Week.  Ironically, when this book was exhibited the show curators placed it on a high shelf so as not to offend either sensitive or young viewers. My work was banned from a banned book show!
